Welcome to the Division Journalism Studies

Journalism represents a social observatory that is essential for the functioning of democracy. The Department of Journalism researches and teaches the workings and challenges of journalism in close collaboration with journalistic practice. In addressing current problems in journalism, the department always makes international references and strives to contrast the often hysterical discussions about the role of journalism (such as its funding and credibility crisis) with a historical dimension that emphasizes the importance of journalism in society.

In addition to theory-based courses, the department’s practical orientation and cooperation with media partners provide students with a wide range of insights into a potential career field that is undergoing radical change as a result of digitization. This ranges from (cross)media work for print, broadcast, online and social media to news production and press and media work at the interface of journalism and public relations/organizational communication.
