Job description
The Department of Communication Science / Department Center for Information, Communication Technologies & Society (ICT&S) is seeking to fill the position of research and teaching assistant in accordance with the Austrian Universities Act (UG) and the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz) as a university assistant in accordance with § 26 of the collective agreement for universities (dissertant). (Category B1; the minimum monthly salary for this position is € 2,786.10 gross (14 x per year) and may be increased on the basis of the collective agreement regulations by taking into account previous job-specific experience).

- Duration of employment: 4 years
- Hours of employment per week: 30
- Working hours: by arrangement
The Center for ICT&S is concerned with current transformations of the digital age and its conse-quences for individuals and society. The academic focus of this position is linked to the research profile of the unit and the associated doctoral programme ‘Internet & Democracy’. Specific areas of research are phenomena of digitalisation and datafication as reflected in the social fields of sociology, politics, economics and (everyday) cultures of use. The unit’s research practice comprises theo-retical work, methodological endeavours, and empirical projects. Current research topics include: the sustainability of digital infrastructures, social media narratives of climate change, discourse cultures on social media, digital transformation processes and democracy, current phenomena of digitalisation (artificial intelligence, automation of communication, etc.). Areas of responsibility:
• Scientific support in research and teaching in the Center for ICT&S;
• Administrative tasks;
• Independent research activities including writing and publishing a dissertation;
• The teaching of two semester hours per week (equivalent to 1 course) from the second year of employment.
Essential criteria:
• Completed diploma or master’s degree in communication studies or a related social science degree programme;
• Start/acceptance of a thematically suitable doctoral programme at the Paris Lodron Univer-sity of Salzburg as part of the Center for ICT&S.
Desirable criteria:
• Solid knowledge of empirical social science methods and very good written and spoken English;
• Interest in scientific writing;
• Affinity for the research areas social media, digital communication and societal change;
• Experience in project work.
Desired personal qualities:
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team;
• Motivation, meta-level thinking, self-sufficiency, ability to work independently.
