New publication by Corinna Peil and Ricarda Drüeke
Ricarda Drüeke and Corinna Peil, both from the Department of Communication Science at the University of Salzburg, have published a new article in the international journal Human-Machine Communication. The article entitled “Autonomy and Agency in Farming: Exploring Human, Machine, and Animal Dynamics” is part of the special issue “From Automation to Autonomy: Human-Machine Relations in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”. The authors examine how farmers in Austria and southern Germany integrate digital technologies and automation into their everyday lives. Using an ethnographic approach and actor-network theory, they analyze the complex interactions between humans, machines and animals on farms. In particular, the article sheds light on how autonomy and agency are renegotiated in the context of smart farming. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the digital transformation in agriculture and opens up new perspectives on human-machine communication.
