Markus Bachofner is a doctoral student and works as a university assistant in the Division Media Use and Digital Cultures, which is headed by Christine Lohmeier. After completing his Master’s degree at the Department of Communication Studies, he is now working on his doctoral studies on the use of online-based communication technologies and the distribution of visual content. Other areas of interest include cultural studies, film and media analysis as well as digital and social change processes in society.

He wrote his Bachelor’s thesis (2017) with Ricarda Drüeke on the topic: How do young women perceive sexist advertising?
In his Master’s thesis (2021) with Christine Lohmeier, he analyzed female lead characters in westerns (1930-1980) under the title: Female “Gunfighter Heroines” as Role Models.
