In February 1987 I started my academic career at the Faculty of Law of the Johannes Kepler University Linz. After two years of intensive study of law, I transferred to the Paris Lodron University in Salzburg, where I then studied political science/history. My Mag.phil. received on January 16, 1997. My thesis topic – “Federalism and Regionalism. Two Cornerstones of European Integration” – dealt with the European future, which actually haunted me throughout my studies.
Internships at the Austrian Federal Chancellery (Integration Policy Coordination) and the Representation of the European Commission in Austria, as well as courses at the European University Institute in Florence and the East-West Academy for Management and Marketing in Linz, further shaped my studies towards Europe.
