Suay Melisa Özkula is a Post-Doc in the Center for ICT&S within the Department of Communication Studies. She is a digital sociologist focusing on digital activism, digital political empowerment, climate communications, digital and visual methods, and visual protest culture in research. She completed a joint European M.A. in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies at the Institute of Education at (part of University College London) and the University of Kassel, and obtained a PhD from the University of Kent (project: Amnesty International: from digital to networked to hybrid activism) Before arriving in Salzburg, Suay was University Teacher and Post Doc (project: Making Climate Social) at the Department of Sociological Studies at the University of Sheffield, and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the School of International Studies at the Università degli Studi di Trento (project: DIGI-EMP: International experiences of digital empowerment in a climate justice frame).
